Ac4GalNAz is an unnatural azido-containing, tetraacylated monosaccharide building block. This azide-derivative of naturally occurring monosaccharide N-Acetylgalactosamine, the amino sugar derivative of galactose, is used in the investigation of glycoproteins and cellular pathways involving glycosylation.
The azide moiety can be used to ‘tag’ glycoproteins then can be targeted for detection using alkyne-activated reagents (‘click’ chemistry) or phosphine-activated reagents (Staudinger ligation).
