Histatin-8, an antifungal histidine-rich peptide isolated from Human parotid secretion, inhibits the hemagglutinating activity of Bacteroides gingivalis 381. Histatin-8 may function as a binding domain for the hemagglutinins of B. gingivalis during agglutination. This sequence also exists in the histatins 3,4,5,6,7,9, and 10.
