Vascular non-inflammatory molecule-1 (Vanin-1/VNN1) is a membrane-associated glycosylphosphatidyl inositol (GPI)-anchored pantetheinase enzyme, highly expressed in many organs including the liver, gut and kidney. Vnn-1 catalyses the hydrolysis of pantetheine into cysteamine and pantothenic acid (vitamin B5); a precursor of coenzyme A.

Vnn-1 is involved in many pathways, including glycose metabolism; tissue tolerance to stress; oxidative stress and inflammation; malaria susceptibility; psoriasis; carcinogenesis; cardiovascular disease; asthma; paediatric immune thrombocytopenia, and systemic sclerosis. VNN1 attenuated Ox-LDL-induced apoptosis by upregulating p53 expression and downregulating B-cell lymphoma-2 expression.
